What it’s like Working with my Husband

21 June 2011 0

In April 2011, after months of debating and planning, I started working at home with Bryan. We received a lot of encouragement from friends and family and other couples sharing their experience. I also received a lot of comments saying it would either make or break our marriage and I was a little nervous, as I can be very stubborn (especially when people tell me what to do – and now it was going to be my husband telling me what to do!)

Well the first few months have been amazing and I don’t have a single regret. Not only am I doing what I love all the time (designing websites) but it is a much better way of life. No more traffic, I go to gym late mornings or in the middle of the afternoon, and I didn’t need to take off 4 days for home affairs (that saga is another story by the way!). Besides all the luxuries, Bryan and I work together as well as I hoped. I am able to help him with the design and maitenance work he had no time for, and he has extremely valuable input for my designs – he knows exactly what to add as the final touches or how to direct me when I have a creative block.

We have had one or two disagreements, don’t get me wrong, but it’s been more than great the rest of the time. He encourages and compliments my work, helps me keep focused and we keep each other informed of new web news. If I ever have to go back to working for another company, it will be very difficult.

The way of life is far better but don’t think it’s easy. We have had to be much better with money and time however I haven’t lost a night of sleep (yet). We have been very diligent about ending at 5 and having my weekends back after freelancing for 2 years is absolute heaven. And best of all? I have the love of my life by my side every step of the way.

(By the way, our new business can be found here: www.casson.co.za) 😉
